Using the Oracle Advanced Analytics Database Option can introduce analytic capability into existing Oracle solutions, delivering significant benefits with minimal time, cost and effort.

Recent trends in business intelligence and analytics has seen a shift in interest from historical reporting toward predictive analytics and the incorporation of prescriptive analytic capabilities into systems. This incorporated capability modifies user or system behaviour based on real time analytic analysis.

The number of scenarios where such capability might be used are significant. Common scenarios include:

  • Results/performance prediction in the education sector
  • Possible fraud detection at claims entry\processing in the insurance sector
  • Risk minimisation in the the financial services sector
  • Improvement in targeting of marketing spend
  • Improvement in customer retention

For existing Oracle enterprise database customers, the incorporation of prescriptive analytic capabilities into existing systems is a relatively straightforward task. The Oracle Advanced Analytics database option is a separate, licensable add-on for the Oracle database which provides the following features:

  • GUI for data exploration, preparation, modelling and deployment
  • SQL, PLSQL, and R APIs to analytic capability
  • Scalable, parallel, in-database and secure analytics capability
  • Seamless support for enterprise business and analytics solutions

Once customers license and deploy the Advanced Analytics option, the functionality of the solution is available within the database. Data analysis, transformation, modelling , deployment and execution is undertaken within the database via the Advanced Analytic add in for the Oracle SQL Developer tool. Figure 1 below illustrates data analysis of source data within the database using the Advanced Analytics user interface within SQL Developer.

The key benefits of using Oracle Advanced Analytics to deliver prescriptive analytic capabilities include:

  • Low time to market – Since the option is deployed in the database, no data extraction, loading etc is required. All analysis, modelling etc, occurs within the database. Additionally, the results of the model are available to systems which currently use the source database.
  • Low deployment cost – Since no additional hardware/infrastructure is required, deployment and associated costs are reduced.
  • Scalable high performance and secure.
